Anyone started thinking about the custom tracks they will be making or would like to see in Evolution?

Obviously we havent had many details on the improved editor yet other than we'll finally be allowed outside the warehouse but that alone brings up a whole lot of new options. Im curious to see how the background works outside in the new editor, hopefully very flexible.

What do you want to see return from HD (in-game tracks or custom)?

Do you think creators remaking some of their HD tracks is a good idea, if so which creators/tracks?

Whos tracks are you looking forward to most?

For me, bringing things from the HD generation up to Evo standard is a great idea. I hope to see a lot of it! Be it straight up remakes or sequels.
Id like to see certain series continue eg. Pure Trials, Fault Line etc.
There are a few of my own tracks id like to Evo up, mainly where i feel they were let down by the object limit and as a result i had to scrap ideas/sections (Titan, Aqualung..)

Im excited to see new stuff from a lot of you. My favorite creators know who they are (i hope) and im not gonna name everyone as the list would be almost impossible but i am very much looking forward to a long-overdue NEW release from Skumbag.
As for sequels, id love to see Killhouse II and Disgusting II :D

How about you? Lets have some thoughts! :)

Straight off topic :roll: but I recall redlynx sayin arcade games are only allocated so much memory.. that's why with the 2nd dlc there was no new objects..
Which I'm guessing means HD hit the memory limit.
Now as evo is a HUGE step forward how is it possible to do all were hoping for.. unless there won't be dlc.. or a later disc release.. which would mean 1000g and we would have to buy the game twice.. which won't happen..
But its a thought. :?:

As for on topic it seems there will be an open trac sharing system.. so its prob a safe bet there will be something that says how many times that trac has been dl

So I want to see the lost heros making tracs again... and personally I hope its such a HUGE step forward that any remakes will seem pathetic now we have curves etc..

I wand to see Arggghhh!!!!!!!3 from Dosto, and I would like to see someone else (Redlynx?) make an Evolution Roadkill.

There are so many amazing track builders so I won't be naming the User Tracks I would like to sequels or remakes of.

I would like to see Trials & Tribulations 2 and Classic 2 but, until we see what is possible with the advanced level editor, it's not really an informed statement.


For off topic question/thought.


Microsoft (I believe) has since removed or increased the allowed Arcade Game size. Games like The Guardian of Light are well over 1gig.

This should allow for more to be packed into Trials Evolution.

Exactly what i was going to respond to raist with. Hopefully the object limit and the amount of tracks we can share both benefit from the increase/removed limit.
But maybe thats not the case and its out of Redlynx's hands.

Maximum size for single XBLA packet is 2GB. This can be base game or even DLC but that would be kind of overkill :)

There is no difference between retail and XBLA title on hardware level. (Except DVD vs HDD)
Both can operate on same level.

Trials HD is loading almost everything (Textures, models etc) into the memory except levels to minimize loading times.
Main game used big chuck from RAM so there was only room for some simple objects in DLC 1.

Proper mesh and texture streaming solves this because you keep only required content in memory at the time.

I know I am extrapolating the meaning I want from your words, but this sounds like there will be far more objects and modifiers included in Evolution.

On a technical side, were all objects always held in memory in Trials HD from the time the game loaded to the main menu? Do the streaming capabilities now allow for more objects to be used as this space isn't being taken up by unnecessary objects being held in memory?

I guess I am asking if Evolutionary will be significantly less RAM intense and if it allows the newly available space for much larger and detailed tracks.

When do we get more screenshots? :( I'll give you a hug if we get some editor ones. Wait, maybe I'll give you a hug if we don't.

I'll probably revisit some of my old themes, like Hayride and Downtown, once we get actual outdoor environments. There are also a few other themes that I keep wanting to make in the Trials HD editor, but they just never work out.

Like Sipe said, there's no limitations how XBLA games can use the Xbox hardware. We can do everything a retail game can do.

However at the time we released Trials HD, there was a limit how big the download package from the Xbox Live could be. We designed Trials HD around this size limit, and that's why the game package was around 210 megabytes (420 megabytes when uncompressed to memory). Because Xbox has 512 megabytes of RAM (enough to fit the whole game data to memory), we decided to load everything to the memory at game startup. A good choice, since we got absolutely zero loading times everywhere because of it.

The problem however with our approach was that all the DLC stuff could be combined freely with the original stuff, so all DLC stuff had to be also loaded at the startup (to have zero loading times also in DLC tracks). Sadly the 512 megabytes of RAM wasn't enough to load more stuff (original objects + levels + 2x DLC levels + objects), so there was no possibility to release another DLCs after the two.

Our new technology allows us to basically have unlimited amount different objects, since we can quickly stream everything in and out in background from the hard drive. Only the stuff you see at the moment needs to be loaded in the memory. So basically we can now have much more objects and environment variety in the game (Trials HD just had one warehouse). Also we do not have limits how many / how big DLCs we can release. Of course I am only talking about technological limits here. It takes a lot of time and effort to create a large and detailed game world.
