Ok, now that I'm winding down my other projects, I've finally got around to starting a series of videos that I spent a long time planning.
While editting Jmn and Akams trialscup runs I noticed how useful it was to look at the replays is slow motion, it was great learning the timing of some of their fast and complex techniques. So that got me thinking... it would probably help lots of people if some of the harder jumps/shortcuts were demonstrated in slow motion. I have several jumps planned, but I thought I'd start with the beginning of Inferno, because I know a lot of newer players have trouble with the first jump. So this series demonstrates as many different techniques as I could find for clearning the first obstacle. Each video shows the technique at normal speed, then half speed then quarter speed (all at 30fps), then finally full speed again. I did them all as different videos to make it easy for the user to rewind and watch a particular technique over again.

These Inferno videos are performed by Jmn, pebe, NorfaiR and AkaM, and since it is also aimed at players who may not be interested in the fastest technique, I put my own method at the end (I couldn't find anyone else who does it).

I'd be greatful if anyone would like to point out replays with other techniques for this jump, or maybe a written description of how you perform the jump, which may help beginners.

Jmn

pebe

NorfaiR

AkaM

Godmil

(yes, yes, I know it's shameful for me to put my own video among these greats, but I really couldn't find anyone else who does the lean back into a flip, and it seems like a really easy (if slow) method)

mike9 asked for the T1 Perfect runs to be done in slowmo, to help understand exactly what's going on. Interestingly mike's run doesn't have the crazy bike bending that KNIG has.

As per NorfaiR's request here is SYLAR's (possibly perfect) intro on D2: Deathslopes.

This is the 2nd checkpoint flip shortcut on Bumpy Road, performed by krzykd101, as suggested by NorfaiR.

This is krzykd101's super smooth flip over the saw blade obstacle in Grindhouse, as suggested by Norfair.

... and this one concludes the krzykd101 trilogy, by demonstrating the big-big jump over the tire on Ladder Madness.

The fast shorcut at the end of No Air by Jmn. This is one of the reasons I started making these videos... the button presses are too fast to get the timing of during a normal replay, but at 25% speed you can clearly see where the bike is when the buttons are pressed. Personally I can't wait to try this now.

EDIT: OMG, I tried for ages before to do this and got nowhere, but after studying the timing here I managed to replicate it near perfectly with about 30 seconds of practice... Now I just need to do it first time on a run :)

EDIT 2: A few weeks later, trying this shortcut 4 times a day, and I finally nailed it... jumped from 77th to 25th :D Well if these videos aren't useful for anyone else at least they're paying off for me :) I'd have never got it without seeing the timing in slowmotion.

As suggested by NorfaiR, this is Hugh's really cool approach to the final jump on Pipedreams. I'm curious though, using this technique is it possible to get enough speed off the final jump to make that smoothly as well?

... and another scary wheelie, this time from NorfaiR, showing why he's #1 on Speed Wheels.

More NorfaiR shenanigans with this super quick shortcut at the start of Where's the Ground. If this didn't call out for slowmotion I don't know what would. :)

Here RedLynx's own Jorma shows how his You Shall Not Pass obstacles should be done...
(I've never even tried this. It looks really difficult.)

Hugh's #1 run on Fiery Justice, demonstrating the Under the Loop shortcut.
I've been dying to see this one in slow motion for ages... I've tried it dozens of times and never landed it. Hopefully seeing the exact point of the break should help with this one.

I found this one to be really really helpful. I was close to throwing in the towel, due to my horrible experiences trying to no fault Diablo, but after making this video the 4th obstacle has finally clicked, shouldn't be long before I get past the rest without any silly mistakes :)

Akam mentioned this one of the ending to Too Many Tires. Personally I only ever get this ending by pure luck, but I'm starting to think I should study it more instead of just hoping for the best :)

Thanks Hardcore.
I'd imagine you've now nailed every shortcut in the game, but if you can think of anything you'd like to see in slowmo let me know.

Anyway, next up is Lestropie's really really fast climb at the start of YSNP...

Ok, I'm starting to run out of ideas now, anyone have any suggestions?

I wanted to cover the final steep ramp in Buried in Box, but the top times all have such flowing and adabtable techniques, I'm not convinced they could be easily imitated. However with a bit of digging I found this really nice method by HardCore7 that uses only a tiny amount of time to set up, and seems like it could be repeatable.

This is the last shortcut that I could think of that would really benefit from a slowmo timing analysis: The backflip shortcut at the start of A Long Journey. In many ways it's similar to the ending to No Air. Here it's demonstated by pebe.

Thanks, and just let me know if there are any other jumps/techniques that you'd like to see in slowmo... I've got the process down so it's pretty quick to make them now.

Degn asked for some Fun with Physics? (Dyn2) shortcuts, which was great cause I love that track. Primagen's #1 run seems to cover everything so I uploaded the whole replay. but there are subtle variations on the start of the first shortcut, and I wanted to have someone stop before the last shortcut, which seems to be well covered by Degn's run.
